Day 20 Christmas Party

Rob slept so well. The first night since we have left on our trip that we have slept in a king size bed.

Rob is a light sleeper so anything smaller and he can’t sleep the whole night as i roll around.
In the tent every movement on our sleeping mats rubs against the base of the tent and makes noise. We slept well last night.

We took the dogs for a walk, made a delicious smoothy and went shopping.
Quickly got home and got ready for a Christmas party.

Linda done amazing!! She had ready for us to eat, oysters, prawns, pumpkin salad, kale salad, mango chilli salad, watermelon and tomato salad, baked salmon, roast chicken, slow roasted 4 hour pork and crackle. If that didnt cover everything a pavalova at the end with a full dose of sagrias ready to devour all night.

It was delicious. I had brought her 2 paleo books, 1 that was specifically for dessert (and i know she loves that )and the other for all natural gluten and sugar free recipes. She loved them.

We are now on our way back to the beautiful  babies Rosie and Brock.
I tried to talk to Rob whilst sitting here on the bus and he ignored me like he does when ever he is in the middle of doing something. He is writing a text.
So now we are sitting in silence and i decided to write on my blog. My diary. My venter.

When he was ready to chat i let him know that i think it is rude when he often won’t respond to me when I’m talking to him. He actually let me know that he is so sorry and that after drilling offshore for so many years he thinks he is a bit deaf from the machinery. He promised to get his ears checked. Haha ooops lucky we covered that, often I’ve thought he was just being rude and ignoring me. Its ok just deaf.

Day 17 Watsons Bay

We woke up at Tobys and headed off to a bus to Dee why to meet our potential house sitting owners.

Rob put me in charge of directions for the day. Partly because he isnt a city guy but mostly because he does all the navigating whilst riding so its my turn now.
I was too busy talking so we missed the stop which was just before the apartment. The bus didnt stop next for another 3 stops because it was the express and the driver wouldnt open the door unless there was a stop.
We got a taxi straight back, it was about a 5-10min drive. Not too bad, but not necessary.

We made it ontime, its a new apartment complex, less than 5 years old and a few minutes to the beach. We press the intercom and are greeted by Lewis. He buzzes us in. We get to the apartment, hes a big muscley guy and very friendly. He introduces us to his 2 beautiful boxers Brock and Rosie. Brock is old and frail, 13 years old with a heart condition and Rosie is solid and much younger. Used to be breeding dogs and were rescued from the kennals.
Lewis adores them. He orders them special food and they own the couch.

We discuss the duties and he asks what time we would be available to come on thursday. 11am was the winning time. We will be there.
Duties include, feeding them 2 times a day.
Daily walk to the park sometimes rest stops are required going to and from.
Poo in the corner of the backyard and wee hosed down off the fake grass.
He said he will do a big food shop for us before we arrive, there is wine we can drink, we can use the volvo if we like. This is awesome!
We are going to love house sitting!!!

Next stop, bus to Manly and ferry to Watsons Bay. We meet Toby and walk around to a cute little beach hidden from the wind called Camp Cove. Behind us are million dollar properties and in front people partying on yatchs. We have a swim and head up to Watsons Bay beach club for a drink. Its 6.30pm, we had a late lunch so not hungry. We order a bottle of white to share. Nice casual Tuesday drinks.

We order A rose’, A red, Another red, Another red, Another red. Ekkk
We stumble out. I have had a glass of wine spilt on my lap so i quicky stood up and poored a glass of water in the same spot. I thought tbat did the trick until i woke up this morning with red wine all down my legs and in my toes. Rob is on the bed too. We are both fully clothed, Rob still has a shoe on.
Tobys in the foetal position on the couch still clothed. We dont remember getting home or when. Rob has lost his wallet with $350 in it.
We are a mess but what a funny night.

Day 16 Hyams Beach and Potts Point

It was so nice to cook in a kitchen for the last 2 mornings. Both days we have been able to poach some eggs. Yesturday we head to Huskisson where we watched a live band whilst we ate lunch. We then went for a huge walk on Hyams beach containing the whitest sand in the world. It was unbelievable. So white. Such a beautiful beach and quite well protected with a national park backing onto it. From there we got some wine and veggies and cooked dinner for Leonie. She loved it.
Today we drove up to Potts point where Rob and Toby met for the first time. One of my best friends who i havnt seen for a year.
We joined Emirates at the same time 8 years ago, trained in the same class and lived in the same building for a good 6.5 years.
Friendships are strong when you live in a foreign country together and you have no family around. They become your rock.

They got along great which is wonderful.
We had a huge walk around the harbour and then had a big swim next to the harbour bridge.
The view was amazing whilst we all sat there and pondered life after a good swim.
We then ate too much thai, a common occurrence when Toby and i are together, and laughed over red wine. He is so funny and always makes me laugh so much so it was great for Rob to be apart of our fun friendship for the first time.
We walked back to the apartment, 45 minutes of great city scenery and crashed. I love Sydney!!

Day 14 Noorooma & Calalla bay

Relationships can be challenging can’t they. The biggest thing for me is communication. Without that your left guessing. Tried to ask Rob to please communicate more instead of being grumpy over something and i have no idea why. Took him a little to say what the problem was, but hes getting there.
Yesterday was drizzly all day, so we chilled out in the tent and watched movies as my warm clothes were getting more wet on the line. At one point the children in the motor home next to us were crying loudly.
Rob farted so loud that it actually went silent haha it was really stinky though and there are not many options for fresh air in a tent so it lingered, but funny indeed.
We managed to cook a seafood mix and eat it with salad for dinner.
Today i went and did yoga on the beach which was calming and Rob went for a run.

Before we took off Rob let me know there were  ants in my helmet and jacket. Didnt think much of it, did the quick once over my jacket and swiftly put it on. Before i could blink rob had grabbed my helmet and said do you mind if it gets wet. I said i didn’t want it wet and he showed me over 100 ants housed in one area of my helmet. Ekk wet it! wet it!
We washed that helmet so many times and they still kept coming out of different areas.

We then took off to batemans bay with a couple of random ants still walking accross my viser…it was a cute town though.
Drove through Mogo which reminded me of a town in Brisbane called Mt tamborine. Really quirky and cute.
Urudulla which was larger than we both anticipated, just kept going.
We are now in Calalla Bay staying at my good friend Tobys mum place with his amazing mum Leonie in there marvelous home. We just had the most delicious dinner and now we are off to bed.

Day 11 Ride to Cooma & Narooma

Today was a huge ride of about 6 hours. I woke up rough after a bad sleep from the cold and leg cramps. Im so unfit its disgusting.
After making dismal leftovers for breaky from the last supplies we had left, it consisted of eggs, advocado and rice paper wraps surrounded by 1000 flies.  I nearly went crazy. I sprayed my whole face and body about 5 times.  Usually it work’s but there were so many. So i didn’t rip robs head off over harvested aggression towards the flies i  did what any other normal female would do after breaky was done.  I went to the river and washed my hair.  Not even my whole body because it was so cold but the  thought of having a shit day i couldnt handle shit hair as well. Looking better always makes me feel better, and i did.  I felt great after that and the flies stayed away cause tbe food was gone and they hate water. Winning!

As a bonus whilst i was gone rob packed up the rest of the camp site so all I had to do was pack my stuff and we were off, first stop Adambimby where they are well known for there massive trout statue. Haha what the! I know!

Second stop, lunch in cooma where i had this amazing shroom buger. Delicious. Massive. Rob said you cant eat all that. Why do i have to take that on as a challenge. I did and felt so overly full all day. Wasnt even hungy by 7 and we ate that at about 1.
We drove through many fields where there was  cattle, sheep even goats. Then back through another national park which was a breath of fresh air after all the boring cattle landscape.

We saw a truck that had driven off the road accidently and turned over a few times loosing its whole back compartment within the hour of us arriving. Police were there and the ambulance and fire trucks had just left the scene. Sad to say that was a highlight in the cattle area. Hope they were ok though.
Finally we arrived in Narooma. We are camping in a caravan park $26 a night. Showers, laundry and bbqs. Simple things like these matter when your both a bit smelly. As rob has had a car accident and many nose opperations since to repair his nose he has lost  alot of his sense of smell so i have to as nicley as possible let him know when he is shtinky. Yes im his social savour.

Off we went to a fantastic italian resturant for dinner on the main strip and lovely walk along the coast back to the caravan park.

Day 9 Yirrangobilly Themal pool

Today was lovely, i was excited the night before to go to the thermal pool. So as soon as i awoke from my dream of making love to rob(realising i was pelvic thrusting and breathing heavily  whilst next to him in the tent) i got swiftly to making breaky. The deal is he pays for fuel and i cook. I am happily exploring my cooking realm on a trangia and i am amazing!
So after avocado, tomato and egg in rice paper wraps we set off to the thermal pool. In my mind i was thinking of steam coming off some natural looking hot spring.
Unfortunately to my surprise it looked like an actual pool that hadn’t been cleaned with algae in it. Pretty much a larger version of our family pool in winter. Tadpoles and all. It was a little warm 26 degrees to be precise. To cold to be called a thermal pool in my opinion, however it is the start of summer so maybe it has a more thermal affect when there is slow on the ground.

The pool however turned out to be our savior throughout the day. It was hot and we hiked more than my solid thighs where willing to go. The benefit of dating a gorgeously fit man is ability to creapily stare at him as often as you want and it be not weird. The disadvantage, hiking. When he is miles ahead and not even sweating and you feel like you have already been in that pool.
This man definitely loves me thank goodness,  sweat and all.
We hiked to a huge opening of a cave. There was a pile of rocks where the cave ceiling had given way. Surrounding it was little coral statues with moss on them. The sort of things you can imagine fairies living on.
We hiked further around the bend and rob sat on a rock that looked like it could have given away at any moment, he was stupid yet brave. I wanted to slap him yet hug him. I didnt even want to get close to the edge. Such a wimp.

The only way i would have, is if i was a child again. Looking back my dad never told us not to but more the opposite, egged us on, i dont think you can do it, your a scardy cat, so we would, just to prove it.
Gone are those days, call me what you want but ive watch enough you tube videos of the brave heros that fail and im clumsy enough on a day to day basis without going out of my way to add some sort of attempted scare. I fell over 2 times in my old work place on nothing but my own feet. The shop went silent and had over 20 people in it each time.
Rob is aware of my clumsilyness so he holds my hand when theres uneaven ground, he did today thankfully, i would have fallen down a hill otherwise. Clumsy.

Day 8 Yirrangobilly

Today we woke up after a big 10 hour sleep in tom groggin camp, well i did anyway, rob got at least 8 he says.

We had rice paper wraps again with egg avo and tomato for breaky with peri peri salt.
Packed up in record time. Still pretty slow for rob. He thinks i work at a snails pace. Im just awesomly cool calm and collected all the time and he is like the road runner non stop. Perfect match 🙂

From there we went on some pretty windy roads beautiful huge trees with the sun peering through and the magnificent smell of the bush. We saw one of the hydro power stations, amazing how they have set it up.  I can’t believe they have built most of these so many years ago but so much of Australia is still running off coal power stations it seems pretty crazy and unnecessary that we haven’t advanced past coal .
Any ways next stop was khonkoban. Unusual little town. Houses seem very close together with little to no fences. We had a delicious lunch at Shanos cafe and then stocked up with what ever they had as an option for breaky and dinner.  2min noodles and salmon for dinner and the same for breaky as yest tom. We stopped at a dam on the way to our current location. Huge, amazing how they can build such large dam walls.

We then went through a huge amount of desalated landscape. There must have been a big fire before the winter and the bush hasn’t been able to recover yet.
Strange. Eery.  Cold. The trees are half black and grey, green on the ground but no leaves on any trees. Strangest landscape I’ve seen for a long time.

Not long after we came out of that area we spotted another few wild brumby. Such beautiful creatures.
We made it here after about 4 hours of riding to the village consisting of 1 building. Cute.
Hot Springs tomorrow. Yay

Day 7 Tom Groggin Camp

What a big day. We awoke from our huge sleep in the house of ullr in thredbo . We both had our first full undisturbed sleep since we left. I didnt realize how shit our moods had both been getting until we woke up all loved up and high on zzzzzzzz.

We had a egg roll which the hotel had decided to make up as the weekend in thredbo had been packed with extreme mountain bike riders. It was awesome. They have a special made compartment on the ski lifts to put there bikes on so they can come flying down the mountain on there bike.
I think it may run all summer the mountain bike tracks. Anyways from there we were of to Charlotte’s pass and the  views of the mountaintops including Kosciuszo, was spectacular with snow still lacing the tips. We hiked to the top 850metres. Generally it doesn’t sound like much but when you’re hiking in motor bike gear and the sun is beaming down, well let’s just say i was knackered.
From there we stopped in the ghost town of Perisha. Nothing there in the summer. Even foods works is closed for the season.
So we headed back to jinderbyne with rumerling bellies to our convenient friend mr kebab.

We stocked up for dinner and breaky in town and headed to our current location. We firstly went for a swim in the beautiful river with the mountains as our back drop. Freezing but pleasant once in. The things you can achieve when you want to wash your poonanny.
Set up camp and i made dinner for rob, his first experience with rice paper wraps. I put it with salmon, advocado and a salad mix. He loved it.

Day 6 Thredbo

So today was an eventful day to say the least. We woke up had an awesome breakfast thanks to me, and started packing up. We had a terrible sleep it was 6’c last night so as soon as we woke up we both agreed a hostle for tomorrow would be more suited as it will be 2’c tonight.

When searching for deals came accross hotel that was cheaper with a king. $79 for the night. We needed a good night sleep desperately.
As we were packing up our new friend Eli came past with one of his mates as they finished work early . Eli had made a bar on the waters edge and stopped by to show his mate.
Eli loves chatting so in between chats we packed up. When rob talks he can’t concentrate on what he doing so he misplaced the keys to the bike. We had to open all bags back up and go through everything. He was frustrated.
He found them by the side of the bike seat.
So we took off to the kebab place for lunch. We were hungry. When we got there rob realised we had a flat front tyre. We ate lunch removed the tire to check it. Got it pumped at the bike shop then took it straight to tyrepower to get fixed. The valve core was leaking. We replaced the tube as well as the valve core just to be safe.
After that we headed straight to thredbo. Had dinner at the local bar and carked it. This place would go off in winter. Beautiful ride up. The taller trees had no leaves so there was something scarce about the landscape still at the beginning of summer.

Day 5 Jindabyne

So we love Jindabyne. We are set up right on a lake so the view is absolutely amazing. I cooked a bengali curry last night for dinner in the trangia with brown rice and garlic naan in the fire.1 have surprised myself.

We bought a bottle of red when we bought dinner but as we got the fire going rob rode back to get one more and ended up with 2 more bottles.
We had some pretty heated discussions. Some points of view were said and i felt hurt by them. It took me a while to warm back up to him in the morning as i only had two glasses to drink so i remembered all that was said. We had a good chat today, we both appologised and realised we dont need alchohol to enjoy the evening.

I mediated and after that i felt better. We sight saw around the town and met a couple Eli and Rhianna, very nice young couple who invited us back to there place for a beer and tea. They are very creative, he is a great photographer who speed races down the hill at mt kosiosco. Rhi loves to croshey and sew. She cleans but wants to get a more creative job which she clearly has the talent for.
They hitchhiked accross the nullarbor as their bus broke down before they left. Today was a beautiful day, rained a little at the end.
